Disinformation in the Global Arena

Nancy Thomson

How do you conduct a war on “terror?”  Take the word out of the dictionary?

Remember Lyndon Johnson’s “War on Poverty?”  Whoever poverty is, he didn’t get killed, there is more of him now than before the war started.

How about using armed forces to “Establish democracies around the World.”  Are people more free when a foreign country dictates their form of government?

I want to conduct a war on obfuscation, faulty use of intelligence gathering and disinformation.

Disinformation

Because they held important positions in government the neocons were able to promote the war in Iraq by using disinformation.  They supported questionable people and groups whose agenda was to assure U.S. involvement in the war.  One of these unreliable neocon favorites even had the nickname “Curveball” due to his frequent drinking and schizophrenic personality problems.  It was Ahmed Chalabi who coined the “WMD’s in Iraq phrase,” and then planted this false information in U.S. and foreign news sources.  A neocon favorite, he was placed as an interim government administrator in Iraq.  Supposedly Chalabi was in touch with the Iraqi people.  Actually he left Iraq when he was eight years old and later was under indictment in Jordan for fraudulent banking practices. Most of his life was spent in London and the U.S. where he schooled at MIT. There were so many other instances of using faulty information but we must move on.

This is a brief synopsis of the manipulations that brought us the present disaster. But backtracking our history we should have been forewarned.  Wars since the Revolution have been arranged.  The League of Nations set up the entrance for the UN that now permeates every aspect of our lives.  It is global everything even though it is sometimes thinly disguised.  War, immigration and trade are the tools by which internationalism advances.

Congressional Irresponsibility

Let’s take a look at the ease with which Congress has signed away our freedoms.  They accepted questionable information and didn’t read the bills they voted on.  Senators were briefed on the UN Charter by a man who was a communist, Council on Foreign Relations member as well as a friend of Alger Hiss.  All voted in favor of the Charter except for two members.  There were two Senators who read the Charter themselves.  They were the only ones to cast a negative vote.

H.R. 3450, the 445- page NAFTA implementation legislation wasn’t completely written before the House voted for it.  NAFTA itself contained 1,400 pages.  All this paper was placed on a cart and brought into the room so it would be present for the vote.  Treaties require a 2/3rds vote in the Senate.  To avoid this restriction NAFTA was called an agreement. This just entailed a majority vote.  Before long NAFTA was being called a treaty.  Soon the true agenda for bringing all aspects of trade under the global umbrella surfaced. The WTO became enforcer for the World’s trade arena.  Meanwhile the U.S. has trade packs with separate cities, Chili and Singapore while also trying to implement CAFTA.

The NAFTA/GATT International Highway

America was the acknowledged target for imported goods.  With a disposable income above most countries the U.S. was to be the dumping ground for third world imports.  Many of the foreign containers docking here are filled with merchandise formerly made in the U.S.  Long Beach and Los Angeles Ports became very crowded.  Transporting all this cargo to market meant building new infrastructure. While thousands of incoming containers flood our ports, very few leave our shores for exporting. The U.S. has a $68.5 billion trade deficit.

I’ve written and spoken about the NAFTA/GATT International Highway before so this will be a quick summary for those who have forgotten or never knew the details.

Most congressmen weren’t aware that the six transportation bills they passed were funding for the NAFTA/GATT International Highway.  Some of them still don’t know about this most expensive project in American history. Our tax dollars are building a 12 lane International expressway with a railroad running alongside.  All this to accommodate foreign imports. The highway reaches from the Panama Canal up through the middle of the U.S. into Canada.  It is a UN global public/private partnership designed by the WTO.  How’s that for outsourcing? Forty-two Corridors ending at the NAFTA/GATT Highway fan out across the country.  These corridor webs connect to ports, rail terminals, international airports and navigable rivers. The Alameda Corridor in our area joins the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.  From there the corridor advances to the Los Angeles rail terminal and eventually of course to the International Highway.  In Orange County there is the Riverside Orange Corridor Authority, besides other Orange county Transportation Corridor Agencies.  Different states and government levels use their regional corridor agency names.

Besides all levels of government funding, our roads will soon become toll roads with the income transferred to the Super Highway.  Eventually the gas tax will be replaced with a tax by the mile.  An ITS, Intelligent Transportation System embedded in the Super Highway will be duplicated on our roads as well.  Transponders in our vehicles along with the GPS, Global Positioning Satellite will track all vehicles.  Costco has announced it may sell toll-road transponders.

Of course we know all of this is being predicated on a global basis.  In England a toll of one pound (more than a dollar) and 34 pence per mile may be in place within four years.  Parliament is deciding whether to go with road pricing (tax by the mile) A ‘black box’ (transponder) would be inserted in every car that would be monitored by satellite the identical way as it is in the U.S.  Drivers in England and America will receive a monthly financial statement sent by computer.  In both countries, driving in a polluted district, during rush time, or in congested areas will institute an added cost.

Urban Lifestyles

Is there a government plan to alleviate traffic jams by changing our life styles?  Yes, and it is called Urbanization.  NAFTA plans called for people to live close together near transportation hubs.  Vertical high rises and lofts will replace horizontal single family homes.  Apartments or condos will be above business establishments with garage parking below.  There will be a mix of housing, business, work, entertainment and transportation facilities all within walking distance.  This will mean fewer cars.  A glance at the newspaper lists the following: Urban Village for suburban Irvine, Chapman in Orange urban lifestyle, Condo Country, dozens of towers are planned, Costs Mesa plans 400 lofts and condos inside an industrial district, An Uptown in Downtown, living, working, playing in LA, A Selection of Live/Work Lofts in Downtown LA, Central City Condos for Those who Live to Shop, San Diego Inspires Downtown Dreams.  The list is endless in California and other states.  We’re told traffic considerations are the key.  Is this the only reason?

Another aspect not mentioned is conditioning.  A vehicle mile tax, charging different rates under certain circumstances is conditioning people to restrict their travel.  Placing many people within a small area promotes group -think and control.  Public transportation buses now have video cameras and more surveillance cameras are being installed in the interests of security.

Richard Capka, Bush nominee in charge of the Federal Highway Administration is into the NAFTA "free trade" agenda.  This administrator wants to privatize roads like the Indiana Toll Road, whose management would then be outsourced to a Spanish-Australian company.  Capka wants more toll roads.  He also wants foreigners as managers for the Chicago Skyway as well as the Trans-Texas Corridor.  Texas is very involved in the construction of the NAFTA/GATT International Highway.  Roads in twenty-three states, encompassing 23,000 miles are foreign managed

Enabling Legislation for the Infrastructure Agenda

There has been no government notification, nor has a word been written about Executive Order 12803, April 30, 1992, Section 1.  It is titled Infrastructure Privatization.  This Order states the President has the authority to transfer for sale or extend a long -term lease infrastructure from state or local government to a private party.  This would ensure that the U.S. achieves the most economic benefit use of its resources.

The "infrastructure asset" means any asset financed in part or whole by the federal government.  These assets include, but aren't limited to roads, tunnels, bridges, mass transit, rail transportation, airports, waterways, wastewater treatment facilities, electricity supply facilities, ports, housing, schools, prisons and hospitals.  In essence the U.S. infrastructure is for sale on the world market.  Thanks to Bernadine Smith for this information.

The Not so Secure Infrastructure Assignments

Sometimes the government obfuscates things.  Other times there seems a deliberate attempt to hide information form the public.  A recent example would be the Dubai attempt to manage six American ports. Even the President doesn't know who manages our ports?  There is a secretive U.S. panel that passes on whether foreigners are security risks.  Who is on this panel, when was it set up and who authorized it?  Now we are informed that non-U.S. firms manage almost all of the terminals at Los Angeles ports.  A terminal manager at the Los Angeles ports said only one of the terminals is all-American.

COSCO, the Chinese government shipping company has occupied Pier J at the Long Beach port for 15 years.  With President Clinton's help several years ago, the Chinese tried to get control of the Long Beach Naval Station that includes port.  Intense opposition caused congress to stop the Clinton -COSCO agreement.  However the Chinese have quietly been buying terminals from other countries.  They are now one of the biggest operators in the Long Beach facility.  Supposedly COSCO is a 300 commercial ship enterprise.  In reality COSCO is a Chinese intelligence gathering operation.  Western nations especially the U.S. have transferred technology to China.  As a result China's economy will outpace the developed nations by 2050.  The Long Beach Port and International Highway will expedite China's mega imports into this country.  Only five percent of the 14 million containers going through our ports are inspected.  What might be in those Chinese containers?

This is just a micro look at the manipulations of those who are supposed to be “protecting us.”

As Charley Reese said," In the meantime, why don't we start thinking about outsourcing the federal government?"
