The Planned Demise of Grassroots Republicanism

By Nancy Thomson

Years ago my aunt joined a communist cell while receiving her masters degree in English at Columbia University. Her group was told to first infiltrate the Democrat Party because they were more accessible, and infiltration of the Republican Party would follow. Communist card carrying was abolished as members joined established government (especially education) and private organizations to create an acceptance of the communist /socialist agenda. This has proved successful.

Both Republican and Democrat parties have already merged foreign policy, with many socialist domestic issues differing only in scope. While there is no significant disagreement among Democrats on any political level, Republicans are at war with each other. A grassroots remnant not yet taken over still opposes socialism in domestic and global matters. Democrats operate under the authority of the Democrat National Committee (DNC). The Republican National Committee (RNC) lacks complete centralized control, a fete desired by all politicians

A plan is under way to follow the Democrat plan, but change can't be effected in all states at once.

Two groups, the New Majority and the New Direction Committee are involved in catapulting the California Republican State Party into the Republican national orbit. These "moderate Republican" organizations are comprised of wealthy members. Newport Beach is home to the affluent land developers who are members of the New Direction Committee. US Representative Dana Rohrabacher stated these mega-developers are trying to end the two/thirds vote to increase taxes. The developers want taxpayers to subsidize the infrastructure for their projects. (1)

Members of the New Majority and the New Direction Committee both were heavy contributors to the Bush campaign. George Argyros, a New Directions Committee member was a heavy donor to the Bush candidacy and was rewarded by the President with an appointment as ambassador to Spain. This ambassadorship was offered despite the fact that Argyros is under indictment in California. (2)

A couple of months ago some Republicans in different areas throughout the state were invited to otherwise unpublicized meetings on California Republican Party (CRP) Reform and Restructuring.. Brooks Firestone, coalition leader of various disaffected Republican associations including the New Majority and New Directions Committee, chaired a meeting in Long Beach. Questionnaires were handed out at the regional gatherings listing many confusing categories for changing the CRP. No names or designation of the authorship appeared on the documents. No meetings were held in Orange County, the most conservative area in the state. While most Republicans were unaware there was a CRP Reform and Restructuring going on, web sites, a national talk show host and Human Events debated the restructuring points. (3)

Gerald Parsky, chairman of the Bush California campaign, is in charge of the reorganization. There will be a radical restructuring of the Republican State Party "which will effectively end the volunteer base's control of the Party. An unelected, unaccountable management committee will be in charge." (4) The GOP's board of directors includes two White House designees. Some regard this reorganization as a White House action to help their preferred candidate for governor, Richard Riordan, who is anything but conservative. "Party professionals are demanding total authority over Republican State finances." (5)

Dan Walters, writer for the "Sacramento Bee', stated that "the White House may be exerting pressure to see the Parsky reforms adapted.----hinting that Bush won't help in raising state funds and California may be excluded from the Bush 2004 campaign if the reorganization changes are rejected." (6) This will all be decided at the Republican State Convention in Los Angeles, September 14-16. It wouldn't make sense to have just one and not all states following California's Republican restructuring plan.

The motto for this Los Angeles convention is "OPENING DOORS , CREATING OPPORTUNITIES" The question remains will the opportunity to reject or accept this new plan be successful?
