THE DEATH OF OBJECTIVITY

By Nancy Thomson - August 10, 2002

The U.S. has become a cadaver, its parts being picked over by the various ethnic groups fighting over American money, foreign policy, trade (commerce) and immigration rights. One third of the early colonists fought with Washington to create the only nation on earth dedicated to individual freedom. Their advice was very objective. Most important, don't get involved in the affairs of other nations. Our military was to be used in defense of this nation, not as an aggressive force. This would provide stability and encourage peacetime prosperity. The interests of AMERICAN citizens provided the cornerstone for foreign and domestic policies.

When we followed this advice our country prospered and was respected around the world. Since abandoning it Americans are targets of attack everywhere.

Not much notice is even given the founding fathers anymore and their words of wisdom receive even less attention. We have been engaged in six major wars, the last four undeclared, thus they were unconstitutional. The Freedom of Information Act and subsequent research shows the complicity between U.S. and foreign politicians to get the U.S. involved in other people's wars. Their slogan is Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace, the very thing George Washington warned us about. Three main elements are necessary to change the foundation of a country, war (number one) immigration and trade or commerce. Our constitutional safeguards have vanished.

Mass immigration has turned us into a rudderless society with ethnic groups vying for control. NAFTA, GATT and the WTO have caused American industries to locate elsewhere eroding our standard of living. How about starting another war engulfing the whole Arab continent? Where would our war machine get enough oil to continue attacking if Arab sources denied us their product? Yet many are insisting on war with no thought of the consequences. What if China attacked us and we were low on oil. Would Russia provide it?

It is the ordinary people who suffer in any war whether they are victors or the vanquished. Every conquest sows the seeds for the next bloodshed.

Look what has already been produced in the name of a war on terrorism against an undeclared enemy nation. Evidently we will conduct a first strike attack on any Mid Eastern country even though this causes destabilization of the entire region and encompasses millions of innocent civilians. Terrorism legislation allows the administration to take away our liberties with the Patriot's Act, Homeland Security Agency, and the spy-on-everyone TIPS program.

Is the public mind conditioned enough by the media to start a war on Iraq? We have been told it might go on for 20 years! What a psychological pro-war bombardment has taken place on conservative talk shows. They want war and they want it now! Coincidentally many of these hosts have been guests of Israel at one time or another. None of the talk show hosts has ever mentioned getting a more balanced reporter's view by visiting the other side in the conflict. Henry Kissinger as well as the administration war- hawks, some Israeli politicians, and numerous reporters for Jewish publications are guests on conservative talk shows. Their discussions are portrayed as "news worthy" and not as prejudicial. Consider where these guests are coming from. The consensus is always that the U.S. must support Israel regardless of the consequences.

Where is the support for the best interests of our country?

News reports indicate that protecting Israel from their worst enemy Iraq is the main crux for combat in that area.

The only thing preventing a preemptive attack on Iraq is Washington's inability to find a reason for such action. Iraq has never threatened the U.S. China and Russia our "allies" are corrupted on a much wider scale than Iraqi's Hussein although the U.S. uses corruption as one reason for war. In addition, both China and Russia are selling weapons to other Arab nations who might also be objects of U.S. military operations. Russia confronted by an envoy from the U.S. said the nuclear reactors they plan to build in Iran might only be a "possibility." (1)

For some months the government has tried unsuccessfully to tie Iraq into 9/11. There have been no consultations with congress on the war, only a senate hearing on the matter in which no one opposing the war was invited to give testimony. (2) Our European "allies" won't join in hostilities against Iraq, and they usually start a war over almost anything. Other Arab nations have issued a warning and will not supply bases for a war against Iraq. Former Iraq weapons inspector, Richard Butler issued a warning about war with Iraq or removing Hussein. He stated that only fools would bet the lives of other men's sons on their own arrogance and call this a cake walk.(3)

Bombing Baghdad with its more than three million inhabitants would certainly constitute unpopular "collateral damage" and be fodder for the International Criminal Court when the grace period for U.S. military is at an end. Cheerleaders for the 9/11 terrorists came from the very Gulf States saved by Bush's father in the first war against Iraq.(4) Despite inspections there is no hard evidence that Iraq has nuclear weapons. It is further acknowledged that Iraq's chemical and biological arms depot would have only a local military application.(5) Some military equipment that Hussein possesses was given to him by the U.S. during the Iraq/ Iranian war.

As for the pretense that the U.S. is a neutral observer in the Israeli/Palestinian battle, this is a charade. We are Israel's military suppliers and as such have become the other target of Arab hostility. In addition there is a large Jewish population in America who are lending support to the war effort. The predicament in which we find our selves has nothing to do with Arab envy. Pro- Iraq war advocates attempt to obfuscate the part foreign affairs plays in the Arab/U.S. conflict.

Several realists in congress have become restless. A draft would probably be necessary. This unpopular circumstance aligned with fighting a war unrelated to U.S. security is a reelection headache. Even liberal Senator Biden urged Bush to get domestic support before starting a war against Iraq (6) Call the talk shows, contact your representatives and let them know there is NO domestic support for our military involvement in this endless war in the Middle East.
